This “kit from your stash” idea has really worked for me! I really love all of the layouts that I managed to pull from it! Today will make my third layout and all 3 are some of my favorites in Kori’s album. I will definitely be doing this again in the future!

Here is a look at the last layout from my kit:

Sibling Bond-1

Holy bright color!! Would you believe I started this layout with a white background? It’s true I swear. I had several scraps of paper laying out on my desk from the other spreads, and some full sheets that I cut down that I decided I wanted to just line them up along the side. Initially, I started with the photos on top of the color blocked half, however, they didn’t stand out and got lost. I then paired them the left side, left white and the colors clashed and they still didn’t pop. Finally, I pulled this pink piece from the kit and it was a great match. I matted the middle photo with the “B” side of the arrow paper to highlight it from the others.

Sibling Bond-2

I used 3 different letter stickers for my title. First, the Snap letters. I then used some white glitter thickers. I had run out of “i’s” in this set, so I cut pieces from an “m” to make my own. I think I like it better than the straight ones it came with anyways ūüėČ I absolutely love these mistable letters from Heidi Swapp. I mixed some acrylic paint with water and brushed that over the letters. I wiped the excess from the dots. I love how well these turned out.

I added some dimension to this spread by cutting extra arrows from the paper and layering them on top of the strip. I then stitched down the center and folded up the edges. The little camera die cut from Maggie Holmes got added with some foam tape for even more dimension.

I added my journaling to a tag die cut, adorned with some lacey ribbon and a mini paper clip.

Final touches to the page included enamel dots, paint splatters, washi tape, and yellow photo corners(added to the kit)

Sibling Bond-5While I still had my supplies out, I decided to throw together a quick card. Here is a look:

I still have tons of pieces left from my kit left to use on other projects! I really encourage you to give this a try! Hope you have a delightful day!

I had a pretty relaxing couple of days off the past 2 days. Today brings on my work “Monday”. (I typically work Saturday-Wednesday. Weird I know.) Luckily, on my days off I got to play with my April Product Picks Kit a little more and knock out a few more layouts for Kori’s album.

Here is a look at my second layout from this “kit”:

Bees-1

I knew from the start I was going to want to mat the Maggie Holmes for Crate paper on a piece of black cardstock (added to kit) so I did that right off the bat. I had a general idea of how I wanted my page to look. That included cutting the clustered design from the My Mind’s Eye paper and using it as an embellishment. I went ahead and fussy cut it out before assembling anything. From there I just started playing with my paper pieces and die cuts until I came to a design I was happy with.

Bees-2

I wanted to add a little bit of distressed texture to this layout. To achieve this, I stitched down the sides of the woodgrain paper. I then “ruffled” or folded up and ripped the edges to my stitch marks. I also”ruffled” the edges of the black and white paper. I used some Tattered Angels glimmer mist to sprinkle some ink splatters across my page.

Bees-3

Bees-4

My title comes from a cute story about my niece at this age that I wanted to tell. She gets such a kick out of “buzzing” her finger at someone and “stinging” them like a bee. I got to use those letter stickers that I mentioned in yesterday’s post.

Bees-5

The additions to my kit for this page include the black cardstock mentioned earlier, a black and white washi tape, and more Tim Holtz mini paper clips (might as well just add those to the kit permanently. ha)

I’m off to do some more creating! Until next time!

I’ve been putting my April Product Picks to work and loving the results. I am so glad I picked such a bright color scheme for my kit. These papers and embellishments have been so easy to work with!

For my first layout, I was so inspired by the Basic Grey Blueprint challenge by Ann-Marie Morris. I was immediately drawn to the layout of the elements. Here is the sketch and inspiration from their blog: (inspo from Lab Partners)

Here is my take, utilizing my April Product Picks Kit:

I started with the blueprint as my base. I first switched it up a little bit by turning it to the side, putting my photo to the left and the small squares to the right instead of the bottom. I only had one photo that I wanted to use so I replaced the second photo with this striped die cut card from a Studio Calico Project Life kit (I added this piece to my original kit contents.) I kept the smaller borders at the top and bottom of the design. I also moved my title from the top border to inside the second larger square. After the initial layout base, I began layering (…and layering…and layering) more embellishments on top. ¬†I have a tendencies to over-embellish. The more “stuff” the better! ūüėȬ†Once I got to a point where I thought I was done, the layout still didn’t feel complete. I matted the entire layout on a piece of yellow cardstock (another addition to my kit) and that seemed to pull it all together. Here are some of the detail shots:

Other additions to the kit included a digital Sundrifter label from Studio Calico, a Yes, Please roller stamp, paint splatters made from acrylic paints + water (I hardly ever buy mists.), and Tim Holtz mini paper clips (my newest obsession).

I also included this little yellow photo corner. It’s so old, I’m not even sure where its from?

I really loved the look of cutting out the arrows from the Dear Lizzy|Lucky Charm|Noteworthy paper and layering them up. Small details like the paint splatters, enamel dots, twine, and little phrase stickers finish off little groupings perfectly. They are layering essentials in my book.

The letter stickers I chose for this layout included these pink ones from Simple Stories Snap. I really wanted to use these thickers for “NeeNee”, however, ¬†I ran into the dreaded “E” problem…and this title called for 4! My solution? Print my own title. I used this font in my Silhouette Software, printed and cut them out of cardstock. Simple fix.

After all of my layering, you can hardly even tell I started with the sketch above! I love that sketches can help jump start your creativity, but don’t limit you from making a page stand out as your own. This page turned out so bright and cheerful, it’s got me dreaming of spring even more than I already was!

If you get inspired by either the kit idea or Basic Grey’s blueprint, I would love to see your projects! Have a splendid day and happy crafting!

Hello, my name is Tara Smith, and I am an addict… I admit that I hoard my scrapbooking supplies. I admit that I continue to buy more knowing I will never get through half of what I already have in a lifetime. I admit that buying and collecting pretty papers and embellishments is really half the fun for me.

But come on, seriously! It’s really the manufacturers fault right?! They keep coming out with more and more cute products with the latest trends, what’s a girl to do?

I vow to start using up some of my stash and conquer my fears of cutting into that pretty, new piece of paper. I will let go of my anxiety that I will run out of my favorite products. (because honestly, what good are they doing in a drawer? and honestly #2, next release, they will most likely come out with something I am equally in love with.)

I am going to try and feature a post on my blog once a month where I share my current product obsessions. I will chose a “kit” of supplies, loosely following this guideline by Shimelle, and share it here on my blog. I will then attempt to create as many layouts as I can with the given supplies. I may add or subtract an item here and there, depending how the design is going. I do not want to limit myself to only those supplies, because really this challenge is about using up my stash and getting cherished pages complete in the process. I will then share my creations here in the following weeks/days.

Here are my product picks for April:

aprpicks-1

I started with my background papers. I chose the black and white paper from the Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper first. This is the “B” side. I also chose 2 pieces of Bazzill Swiss Dot in Salt(my go-to.¬†obsessed) ¬†and a plain ol’ piece of white cardstock. I often base my layouts on a white background, so these seemed appropriate.

aprpicks-2

Next, I chose my coordinating patterned papers. First, I chose a multi-color print. This Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm paper, Noteworthy, is new to my collection. I knew I wanted to put it to use. I also chose these(listed in order of picture):

aprpicks-3

I next chose a large assortment of embellishments, ranging from flat to dimensional. I pulled random pieces from my die cuts bowl. Anything that I thought would work or that grabbed my attention got added to the pile. Here is a list of collections I pulled from:

I did not chose any letter stickers for my kit. The way I create, I chose my title last. I decided that I would leave my whole stash of letter stickers open to use. I did not want to be held to one color or style. I also didn’t want to take the chance of running out of valuable “E’s” on the first layout and be stuck. When I share my layouts created with this kit, I will reference and link any additional supplies that I add to the mix.

This is just the selection of supplies I pulled from my own stash, mixing both old and newer collections. I did not purchase anything new for this kit. The way this challenge is set up by Shimelle, you are encouraged to pick supplies from your own stash to create a kit.

I can’t wait to dig into the one I put together! If you follow Shimelle’s guide or create layouts from a kit, I would love to see your creations! Link me in the comments or tag me on instagram!¬†Happy crafting!
